Originally from California, Dr. Roger Fontes has made Henderson and the surrounding area his home for the past 19 years. In that time, he has earned praise from his patients, colleagues, hospital staff and physical therapists for his professionalism, technical abilities, knowledge and general enjoyment of orthopedics. In addition, Dr. Fontes believes that the education, experience, and integrity of a doctor matters and should be strongly considered by patients when selecting their doctor or surgeon.
Dr. Fontes has always been fascinated with the mechanics and movement of the human body. This led him to obtain two degrees in Biomechanical Engineering and Biochemistry and Cell Biology at the University of Californa, San Diego. He then attended medical school at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, ranked in the Top 5 medical schools in the U.S. After graduating with the highest honors, he completed five years of residency in Orthopedic Surgery with several honors and awards at the University of California, San Francisco. He was invited by faculty to stay on as an Assistant Professor teaching orthopedic residents, performing research, and of course, caring for the challenging patients and diseases which get referred to a large university hospital.
To broaden his expertise, Dr. Fontes traveled to Berlin, Zurich, and Northern Italy to work with a number of world famous surgeons specializing in trauma, shoulder reconstruction, and Illizarov surgeries, respectively. In 2011, Dr. Fontes received direct training from Dr. Joel Matta in Los Angeles, one of the pioneers of Direct Anterior Hip Replacement Surgery, and is now one of just two doctors in Las Vegas to offer his patients this revolutionary approach to hip replacement surgery. Dr. Fontes continues to attend orthopedic conferences and training seminars to stay up to date on the advances in orthopedic surgeries.
Dr. Fontes is an avid cyclist and when not working and treating his patients, enjoys being active in sports and the outdoors. He resides in Henderson with his wife and children. “My philosophy is to treat all of my patients as I would my own family, with the goal of getting patients back to living their healthy and active lifestyle.”
