Outpatient Joint Replacement Center

Parkway Recovery Care Center

Up until now, joint replacement has traditionally been performed in hospitals as inpatient surgeries. Recently however, improvements in anesthesia techniques, such as nerve blocks and regional anesthesia, combined with much less invasive surgical techniques, have shortened hospital stays to an average of 1- 2 days for most patients.

Dignity Healthcare, USPI and several orthopedic surgeons, including Dr. Fontes, are happy to announce the opening of the Parkway Surgery Recovery Care Center.  This new care facility consists of six (6) private luxury recovery care rooms where patients can recovery from hip, knee, and shoulder replacement surgery in comfort and safety.  In a unique collaboration with Parkway Surgery Center and Parkway Recovery Care Center, Dr. Fontes will now offer joint replacement surgery (arthroplasty) which had previously been performed exclusively at an inpatient, hospital setting.

The goal of this center is to meet or exceed hospital safety and care standards, while overcoming the limitations, inconvenience and stress of inpatient hospital stays. Dr. Roger Fontes, one of the surgeons involved in the planning and development of the recovery center offered, “Many of my orthopedic patients who undergo joint replacement surgery are quite healthy. We know that hospitals are admitting and treating increasingly sicker and sicker patients. Many of these patients are admitted because of infections. Despite valiant efforts of infection control in hospitals, the risk of hospital acquired infections is always present. The beauty of surgery and recovery at a dedicated outpatient joint recovery center is that infected patients are not allowed in the facility, ever.”

The center is licensed by the State of Nevada as an Intermediate Care Facility and will meet or exceed the stringent licensing requirements of this designation. The center will have twice the nursing ratios compared to typical hospital staffing and a dedicated Physical Therapy Service to provide twice daily PT.
